A GLP-1 medication turns down the volume on hunger. What you do with that quieter appetite — how you move, sleep, drink and plan your week — is what shapes how you feel and how well results last. This hub covers the everyday habits that matter most.

Move to keep muscle, not just to burn calories
Some of the weight lost on any weight-loss treatment is lean mass. Resistance exercise — weights, bands or bodyweight moves — two to three times a week, together with enough protein, is the most practical way to protect muscle and strength. Walking and other cardio support heart health and mood. If you’re new to exercise, start small and build gradually, and check with your doctor if you have heart, joint or other health concerns.
Alcohol
Many people on GLP-1s notice they want to drink less. Alcohol can also make nausea and other stomach side effects worse, and for people taking diabetes medications that lower blood sugar, it adds to the risk of hypoglycemia. If you drink, go slowly, eat something with it, and pay attention to how you react. Details in alcohol on GLP-1s.
Sleep
Short or poor sleep is linked with increased appetite and cravings, which can work against you. Aim for a consistent schedule. If you snore loudly or wake up exhausted, ask about obstructive sleep apnea — tirzepatide (Zepbound) is FDA-approved to treat moderate-to-severe sleep apnea in adults with obesity (Zepbound PI).
Travel, events and routine
- Plan your dose day around big events so peak side effects don’t land on a wedding or flight.
- Pack protein snacks and water; airports and conferences rarely have options that suit a small appetite.
- Follow storage instructions for your medication when traveling, especially heat and refrigeration.
- Keep enough supply on hand — the supply tracker shows when to reorder.
